Dancing or not ? (shoud I continue dancing?)

by Mystery Dancer

okayy so I started dancing when I was 5 years old and didn’t have a passion for it till I turned 11 years old . Long story, short this year I decided I want to quit dance all together basically because I don’t have the body (literally overweight)to dance and I’m not at the level I want to be at . Do you think I should quit or do you think I should lose the weight and come back next year? And dieting tips also welcome. And 1 more question, how do I still keep my flexibility without actually dancing?

Dear Mystery Dancer,

First of all, contemporary dance is not strictly about thin bodies. I believe you might like to read the following thread:

Is it important to have a thin body to do contemporary dance?

I believe you should absolutely not quit dancing because of a situation of overweight. Do you know there are contemporary dance groups in the world for overweighed people exclusively?

What I believe though, is that being overweighed can give you many health problems. So, in that sense it would be nice for you if you make an effort to recover a healthy state. As a dieting tip, I have a whole page about the dancer diet. So, I would suggest you read it completely and carefully, to see what you can learn from it. This is the link to that page:

The dancer diet

For keeping your flexibility without actually dancing, you could practice a yoga routine by your self. I also have a page about that topic that could help you with it. Here's the link to it:

Basic Yoga Routine

As far as it concerns me, please do not quit dancing unless that is what your heart or health ask you to do. If being overweighed is something that bothers you, dancing and a healthy feeding routine can be the perfect way to solve the situation.

I hope this gives you some guidelines to follow. Don't hesitate to come back with more questions or to participate at contemporary-dance.org in any other way. I'll always be glad to help you out.

Kindly,

Maria

You should always dance. It isn't about how much you weigh its about how much you try and show emotions through dance. You'll get better. Keep it up. :)

I have read your issue and in my opinion, what you lack is confidence. You need not think too much about dancing if you are not planning to make it a career. You just dance your heart out and about your body, you can consume honey to decrease weight.
